YW Mind Your Brain: Neurologic® For Youth

YW Mind Your Brain is a trauma-informed program that empowers students in 6th – 12th grade to explore the amazing learning and healing potential of their brains. Based on sound information from the fields of neuroscience and psychology, understanding the brain can help all students:

  • better recognize and manage emotions.
  • control responses to stress.
  • increase learning.
  • and improve their relationships.

In adolescence, students’ brains and bodies are being inundated with a range of hormones and a barrage of new emotions and sensations. The Neurologic® curriculum, adapted by Lakeside Global Institute with permission from the work of Dr. Bruce Perry and the ChildTrauma Academy, can help all students better understand themselves and their impact on others. It can empower students to take control of their learning and to better regulate their emotions and impulses.

Along with the information presented, chapters include brain-based interventions including breathing and mindfulness exercises to help students not only learn the information cognitively but experience the information through regulating interventions as they learn. The lessons are designed to encourage students to maximize their potential. The information and activities included have the power to help grow the brain. The theme throughout these lessons is that growth and change is possible. No matter what adversity a person has experienced in life, by understanding the brain more fully and applying this knowledge, students can bring about positive growth/change, improved learning, emotional healing and growth.
