Jacob Venable: The Future is Bright

YW3CA is focused on empowering youth and families by providing education, skills training, and fostering self-confidence. We equip individuals with the tools needed to propel their lives forward, encouraging financial and economic advancement.

Consider Jacob Venable’s inspiring story…

Having only completed the 9th grade, Jacob came to the YW3CA Adult Education and Training Center to complete his G

ED. He was anxious before he started with YW3CA, saying “I doubted my abilities to pass the GED exams.”

After Jacob took classes with the dedicated teachers at the Adult Education and Training Center, he felt more confident than ever! “The Adult Education program at YW3CA instilled belief in me. They nurtured my confidence and consistently motivated me to strive for my best!”

Before I started at YWCA’s Adult Education and Training Center, I was super anxious since I didn’t feel I had the skills to pass, since I had only completed 9th grade.

My general strategy is to save the best for last. so I did the same thing with the GED tests. I took the longest test first and saved the shortest test for last. Language arts was the longest, 155 minutes, and passed. Then, I took math which was 120 minutes, and passed. And so on, science was 95 minutes and I passed.

Social studies was my last test and was only 75 minutes. I walked out of there thinking, that was so hard, I don’t think I passed. I remember my mom and I were so stressed waiting that one hour to get my results.  We were in the kitchen, and I checked to see if the results were there, and … I passed!

My mom and I started crying with happy tears, it was such a big relief! The YWCA Program made me believe in myself. You all gave me confidence and encouraged me to do my best.

As soon as I got my diploma, I instantly signed up for college. I started at Montco this past semester with six credits. Before YWCA I never thought college was possible, so I haven’t declared a major yet, but my courses may help determine that.  School is going well and I know my future is bright.

I want to give special thanks to my mom and dad. They believed in me the most and that was the best thing. I didn’t believe in myself, at first, but they were right and so was everyone at YWCA. Thank you for everything!
